Impressive Online/Offline Integration

I was coming back from lunch, and heard an ad on the radio for FTD.com. The ad was for a Valentine’s promotion they were doing for radio listeners, but the execution is one of the more impressive I’ve seen.

In the ad, they tell listeners to go to FTD.com, and click on the yellow box with the microphone in it at the top of the page. It looks like this:

When I saw it for the first time, I thought “How are they going to know the traffic came from the Internet? Anyone can click on that link.” Then I remembered that in the ad, they gave a password to enter into the landing page, to get the sweet VD deal. Luckily, I remembered the password (I don’t want to ruin their tracking, so I won’t post here, but if you must know email me.)

After entering the password, and hitting ENTER, I land on a page that is specifically for Radio Listeners, with some VERY good deals on flowers. Here’s a partial screenshot:

(Sorry for crappy resolution; long story.)

You have to admit; this is an excellent example of making offline advertising trackable online. Perfect, not really, but very good. I expect to see a lot more of this going forward.

Now go buy your sweetie something, cheapie! They deserve it!
