Congratulations Dan on this amazing opportunity!
I wish you and your family the best.

My one piece of advice: Change is good, even if you feel a bit overwhelmed or scared. By Sticking with the familiar we give up on the infinite possibilities and outcomes of any circumstance or opportunity.

Dan, sounds like a darn near ideal job for you. Just awesome. Do you still get to live in Chicago or will you have some new courses to try out in the very near future?!

My one piece of advice (and congratulations by the way) would be to realize that in an organization that big, many people may not be aware of the impact that SEO has or why it's important.

A big part of what you'll want to do is get people to buy into SEO - big charts showing how much traffic you get, where competitors rank better (have more pages indexed etc).. Lots of informational meetings will be really helpful to you.

I suspect it would be easy to get buried in the technology, but to get real change, you'll need people to buy into your vision.

and, for a bonus piece of advice, pay attention to the constraints around the existing systems - you may "know" that URLs are bad, but cost-justifying fixing them may be a challenge :)

The biggest thing, is to plan, plan, plan. Hopefully you'll have a team to execute with you. Education I've found is really important, especially those up the chain who don't "get" what it is you do.
