Dan, you said caddies are required on the Irish. I've played there at least a half dozen times and they're not required. I've never had one. In fact, I have ridden in a cart once as well, though that was horrible as you can have a walk of several hundred yards from the cart path to your ball from some areas.
I tried a push cart once too, but it was just too hard to get around. I'd recommend a nice light weight carry bag and working out ahead of time. :)

Weather should be fine; wind may depend on what time of day you play. Early morning should be none or little; afternoon it could get windy especially for the Irish and Straits courses, as they're right on the Lake.

Dan,
I plan on making the trip up to Kohler to play all four courses in late July-early August. What kind of weather/wind can I expect?

Dan;

Great website. We, like you, travel all over to find great places to stay and play. Although I liked Irish and Straits more than the BWR courses, The River was super. Caddies are a nice tough at WS.
We are going to tullymore this summer. anything on that ? I didn't see it on your list. Also, the other courses at Kiawah are fun.
Great website.

Nice review, Dan! I find it interesting that the 'Irish' course has so many trees and a freshwater hazard...never seen either at the great links courses in Ireland, which the rest of the golf course is clearly trying to emulate.

I've never been a big fan of Pete Dye -- Firethorn in Lincoln Neb has three of the worst Tournament holes I've ever played -- the lack of transition between parkland and linksland evident on this course is just another nail in his coffin. Would have preferred to see a guy like Doak or Crenshaw get this commission, but they weren't in vogue when Kohler began, I suppose.

At any rate, really enjoyable to read your review!
