Have played the course 3 times this year (2011) and found it to be excellent. It will challenge your entire game. Played many courses in the area and I have found this to be the best deal around. I recommend the course to everyone. You will come back a second time.

Yes, Big Run is an excellent layout. I started playing it in the 70s. However, maintenence is usually an issue. We quit playing it in 1999 because they didn’t cut the grass. Went back in 2009 on a day when the mowers were out in front of us and the conditions were acceptable. When we played it in 2010 it was back to normal. It was once said about Big Run “So much potential, so little maintenance.” Sad but true.

Big Run is a wonderful course designed by and designed for the seasoned golfer. It is indeed a secret, as only the seasoned players I know have either played it or know of it. Always in great condition. No tricks, no gimmicks or “signature” holes. Just great golf. Hope you can enjoy it sometime.

Dan, this looks like it might one of my favorites of the ones I’ve seen you review. No nonsense, tough as nails, and not at all a cookie-cutter course. I will definitely hit this one up next time I’m back in Northern Illinois.
